Sunday 26 April 2015, Day 15, Week 3, Moremi NP, Xakanaxa Camp no 8.

Route: South Gate Campsite to Xakanaxa Campsite (via Third Bridge Campsite), Moremi NP.

Distance: 65km Time taken (with photographic and frequent game viewing stops): 3hr 30min

We were able to make our customary relatively early start, leaving at 07H00. It is best to be on the road before the heat of the day begins, whilst the predators may still be astir and to take advantage of the golden morning light for photos.

25 April 2015 Saturday, Day 14, Week 2, Moremi National Park - South Gate (Maqwee) Camp

South Gate Campsite and Vicinity.

Thumbs Up.
• Nice shady campsite
• Good fairly clean ablutions
• Reasonably well run by Kwalate Safaris. Rubbish removed and fire ash cleared very regularly.
• Close to Black Pools area.
I think South Camp is worth a short overnight stay from May to probably October when the flood levels in the Black Pools area will prove to be an animal magnet.

I like animals. I like natural history. The travel bit is not the important bit. The travel bit is what you have to do in order to go and look at animals”. – David Attenborough.

Friday, 24 April Day 13 Week 2 Moremi National Park - South Gate (Maqwee) Camp no 6

Route:

Maun to South Camp, Moremi National Park.

Distance, about 85km Time taken, 2hr.

As most will know one takes the Shorobe road to Moremi. This is a great piece of tar until the small village is reached after 32km. In past years the road thereafter was a sand heap. Although corrugated this 2 lane road at least appears to be graded from time to time. Wood (the excellent wood for coals – mopani) was bought along the road for P10 per bundle.

23 April, Thursday, Day 12, Week 2. Maun, The Kraal self-catering cottages.

As nice as our accommodation is, today was largely a mediocre day of chores and shopping. Maun even has a Woolies Food Hall. Beef Boyz provided some good meat (some of which turned out very disappointingly tough) and we stocked up on drinks. The vehicle is packed choc-a-block and we will have to resupply fairly often.
